Pathways Skill Development. Breaking Down Barriers in Employment.

Assisting You in Your Job Search

Our Placement programs offer:

Community (Volunteer) Placement
Are you moving into a new career or job field?  Are you new to Canada and lack Canadian experience?  Do you have a gap in your resume that needs to be filled?  Does your reference list need reinforcement?   Do your skills need upgrading because you’ve been away from the workforce for a while?  Are you returning to work after raising your children?  If any of these are true for you, then Community Placement might be the perfect fit.  We have connections to over 150 non-profit and government organizations and agencies where you can volunteer for up to 6 months to gain those skills, fill out that resume, expand that resume list and find that Canadian experience.  In the past 5 years over 400 participants in Community Placement have found paid employment, either at the organization where they volunteered or in the private sector.  In those same 5 years, over 20% of Pathways’ own hires have come from individuals who started as volunteers with us.

Employment Placement
Pathways is not an employment agency in the traditional sense, but our Placement Coordinators do have connections throughout the city with employers and opportunities.  Along with coaching you in your job search they will also look for matches between our participants and the employment opportunities that come our way.  We can help you access wage and equipment funds and subsidies.  We will also continue to work with you once you have the job to assist with any issues and concerns that come up in the all-important first months on the job.  Many employers work primarily through Pathways to fill positions that they never post in a newspaper or on a website.

Weekly Networking Session
Another important part of Pathways’ Placement program is our Weekly Networking Session.  This session is an opportunity to connect with our Employment Placement Coordinators, meet with other job seekers to share information and encouragement, hear from employers who come in to talk about opportunities in their companies, have your resume updated, and even have an on-the-spot interview on some occasions.  These sessions take place in our resource room and offer opportunities to combine all the job search methods you have learned at Pathways in a group setting.

The PMT program helped me get the certifications and the confidence I needed to gain full employment.
